Hello Friends!
A happy, playful color ribbed pullover that takes me back to Twiggy and summers in the late 60’s when everyone was wearing ribbed tops called “Poor Boys”! FINE LINES takes this retro look and gives it a modern flare, inspired by the wonderful color palate of Kelbourne Woolens‘ yarns.
Part of the fun of FINE LINES is that it can be knit for summer or winter: it knits up equally well in wool (I used Kelbourne Woolens Andorra main color Sunshine Yellow on left) or cotton/linen (shown also in Kelbourne Woolens Mojave main color Coral on right) bought from my local yarn shop Wild Hand. I started by playing with more nautical tones and then went with a blast of bright colors, but I am thinking that a set of neutral colors would be quite stunning, as well! And the sweater can be customized to one of 3 lengths — cropped, waist length or hip length. The sleeve lengths are varied accordingly!
You may also have noticed the fun darting detail in the front that adds to the fun stripes and distinctive ribbed texture.
FUN LINES is Knit all in-one-piece from the top-down, using an unusual construction where you add extra length on the BACK when you go to divide for the sleeves, so that there is no need for short-rows along the neckline. As a result, the BACK striping is somewhat different from the FRONT, which adds a bit more fun to the pullover!
And I will note that I have made a change to my normal sizing. There are 11 sizes, with approximately 2 ½” difference between each size. When picking your size, realize that this is a ribbed piece and will pull in a bit (or really, you need to slightly stretch your fabric to determine gauge)! I decided to knit myself a size 4 (so the full 4″ of positive ease), but I have been known to wear the size 3 hip length one for a more fitted look!
I made myself a waist length version in Mojave with Raspberry as the main color! Click the photo to get to my project page. I posted a (not so good) photo of it on, but I will get better photos in the next few days! My daughter says that I don’t have enough red/pinks in my wardrobe, so… I absolutely LOVE how this came out and it is so comfortable!
I owe many people thanks for they project. First, a huge shout out to Kate and Courtney from Kelbourne Woolens for many many years of collaboration and support! Second, a big thank you to these gorgeous models, Martine (@martinemckinney on IG) and Nadia (@see.nads.run on IG) McKinney. And last, but not least, huge kudos the ever fabulous Gale Zucker Photography for the amazing photos, even in the time of the pandemic!!
