I am so excited to be launching a new pattern. It has been quite some time and I have to admit that the pandemic has really challenged my work. But here I am with a new blanket pattern: SQUARED!
I have knit very few blankets in my time, but find new babies a very good incentive to cast-on a new one! This time it was my new grand-nephew, Rome, who needed something to wrap up in. I wanted something cozy and soft to the skin, so reverted to one of my favorite indy dyer’s yarn: Qing Fibers Super Soft DK, which is 80% Superwash Merino wool, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon. A great combination for a washable, soft and durable blanket.
When I finished making Rome’s blanket, shown in the color Sushi, I decided that I really wanted a larger one for me, so I made a lap-blanket size. Sometimes I fold it in half and drape it on my shoulders and sometimes I literally use it on my lap! For the larger blanket, I used the color Daffodils. The pattern includes 2 blanket sizes, but the width of each blanket is determined by the number of Eyelet Sections completed. So, you can adjust the size as desired.
SQUARED is worked diagonally, beginning at one corner and ending at the 2 opposite sides. 2 increases are worked at the center on every RS row to create the square shape. The first corner begins with 4-st I-cord that transitions into the I-cord edging around the blanket; the blanket is finished with an I-cord bind-off. Each corner has a 4″/10cm I-cord that’s eventually pulled through the head of a tassel.
