Hello Friends!
I am so excited to introduce you to LUMINOUS!
This shawl celebrates our fascination with hand-dyed yarns. Particularly, for me, the yarn of Emily Foden, Viola yarns.
I first discovered her yarns when Susan Cropper of Loop London sent me a skein of their custom Loop color, Speckled Mist! Since then, I have knit several garments using Viola yarns and seem to have an ever growing stash of her yarns! I only began to buy her Mohair Lace when I fell in love with Giant Peach (shown above) last winter.
I knew right away that wanted to be able to see the lovely variations and speckled patterns in these amazing hand-dyed yarns, so I went with a simple, triangular shawl with alternating stripes of fingering/sock weight yarn and mohair lace yarn.
Viola is having a shop update on Saturday, February 29th at 10am EST! She will have Sock and Mohair Lace available. Here is a link to her shop update preview.
You can also buy Viola yarns from Loop London’s shop.
LUMINOUS is worked from a center tab at top down to the bottom edge, it features a top edge worked as an integrated I-cord and the bottom edge finished with a decorative picot.
The shawl is feather light, so you hardly know you are wearing it! it is big enough to wear as a shawl on cooler spring nights or as a scarf around your neck — as I wear all my shawls all winter!

I have knit 3 of them and don’t know which one I like best. For my first one (above) I used both stripes in the same color, Giant Peach. For my second one (below) I decided to use more contrast with Bright Pea and Pollen. And for my current one I am using more complementary colors, Speckled Mist and Sweet Dreams. But all of Viola’s yarns are so special you can’t go wrong!
And, of course, you can substitute with any of the lovely hand-dyed yarns currently available in fingering or sock and mohair yarns. You need approximately 400 yds/366m of each.
To celebrate LUMINOUS is 30% off on Ravelry through Sunday, March 1st! No coupon code needed.
A special thank you to Chrissie Knight for the photography and to Blomst Floral Design for the use of their lovely studio!
