On the day that Theo was born, I started knitting him a cardigan. I brought 3 colors of The Plucky Knitter Cashmere with me to the hospital, thinking it would be a simple striped sweater, but I really didn’t like it. I turned to one of my favorite, easy-to-knit colorwork patterns, Garter Ridge (see BAYADERE). In 2 days, his first sweater was complete!
So, of course, I started a second one. This time in Reverse Garter Ridge and in a bit more practical yarn, Rosy Green Wool Cheeky Merino Joy, which is machine washable. Now I am knitting another one in Kelbourne Woolens Andorra, for when he gets a bit bigger and winter is here. Yes, I have turned into that type of grandmother!!!
You can knit THEODORE in either Garter Ridge or Reverse Garter Ridge. The cardi is shown in Garter Ridge and the vest is shown in Reverse Garter st (insides shown above). The pattern is written for sizes 0-3 (3, 6, 12, 18 24) month. Mine are both 0-3 month sizes.
THEODORE is knit in one piece, from the bottom two the underarm. Then the FRONTS and BACKS are worked separately and joined at the shoulder. SLEEVES (optional) are picked up and worked flat to the cuff and seamed. The front band (and optional armhole bands) are picked up and worked. Note that the original sweater has 5 buttonholes, but I thought it was too much, so I adapted to 4 buttonholes on the vest, which is how the pattern is written.
