I cannot tell you how excited I am to learn that Lynne Barr is launching a new book.
There are very few books that I have bought over the years that I go back to again and again. You know that I use Barbara G. Walker’s Treasuries all the time. I also find myself perusing my collection of Elizabeth Zimmerman books periodically when I am stuck on how to construct something. Then there are June Hemmons Hiatt’s Principles of Knitting (yes, I have a 1988 hardcover edition) and Nancie Wiseman’s The Knitters Book of Finishing Techniques, which I use for reference all the time. But Knitting New Scarves and Reversible Knits are books that I go to over and over again just to be inspired!
Not only is Lynne’s knitting unbelievably innovative, but she has single handedly reengineered the concept of textured pattern stitches! And more amazingly, Lynne’s writing style is simple, straight forward and crisp. She describes what she has done (and how the contributing designers have interpreted “reversible knitting”) in a way that is at once conversational and insightful!
What I find even more unimaginable (and the reason that I am so intrigued by the thought of speaking with her) is the knitting journey that she has taken from her landscape sweater designs…

So a few nights ago, while I was sitting in bed contemplating how to incorporate a few of her pattern stitches into a new design, I set out on a quest to find out how to contact her. While I could find interviews with her — both video and in print — and I could find her address and phone number in the white pages, I couldn’t find a “public” forum in which to contact her. But I did find out that she has a new book.
Lynne Barr is publishing a book about shaping! One of my favorite inspirational, experimental knitting activities. HOORAY!
